Alternative Standard Certificate:
Professional Education Coursework
Through the Alternative Placement Program, the state of Oklahoma offers a pathway for individuals with nonteaching degrees to teach in Oklahoma schools. Once you’ve received your initial alternative certificate, you have three years to complete your professional education as you work toward your alternative standard certificate.
As part of the professional education requirement, you must complete college courses in two areas: Classroom Management and Pedagogical Principles. Advancement Courses offers approved courses in both required categories.
