Maximizing Formative Assessment in the Classroom
Assessment Strategies | K-12

Understanding formative assessment is great, but knowing how to use it consistently in instruction is the stuff of superhero teachers! When you have so much content to cover in so little time, it can be easy to pass over formative assessment opportunities. However, when done correctly, formative assessment can not only fold neatly into any lesson plan, but also support achievement across student populations.
In this course, you’ll learn in-depth strategies for different types of formative assessment, including using technology and questioning techniques to better understand students’ learning and progress. You’ll take a close look at how data can drive an excellent assessment strategy, including how to collect student data and how to use that data to plan instruction and scaffold learning experiences. In addition, you’ll explore formative assessment strategies to use with specific student populations, including students with learning differences, English language learners, and talented and gifted students.
Using the techniques from this course, you’ll be able to use formative assessment to optimize your time with your students and maximize the effectiveness of any lesson.
